Realistic Downforce Handling For 70 Superbird by RossD 1.0

A 50 year old car equipped with a 400 horsepower V8, power disc brakes and aerodynamic upgrades designed by a ballistic missile engineer!

This handling provides realistic power, top speed, gear ratios,
center of gravity, aerodynamics and engine sounds for
RossD's 70 Superbird add on. Acceleration times, top speeds
and general handling will vary a bit depending on what "tires"
you choose and if you use a modded materials.dat.

Specs:
440 V8
375 HP
3.55 Axle gear
140 MPH
Choice of 3 speed auto or 4 speed manual and street tires or sticky tires. Lowest top speed, drives slightly better than the Hemi, not quite as overpowered. 440 engine is mildly under rated, advertised power is 375 actual power is just over 400. I included the 440 with 3 speed auto as an example of the lowest performance available in the 70 Superbird.

426 Hemi V8
425 HP
3.55 Axle gear
160 MPH
Choice of street tires or sticky tires.
Lower top speed than the 2.76 gear but extreme acceleration all the way up to 160 MPH.
Hemi engine is vastly under rated, advertised power is 425, actual power is closer to 500.
Quarter mile times will be in the low 12 to mid 13 second range.

426 Hemi V8
425 HP
2.76 Axle gear
200 MPH
Choice of street tires or sticky tires.
Optional dealer installed 2.76 axle gear gives higher top speed than the standard 3.55 gear at the cost of some acceleration. Car could exceed 200 MPH straight from the dealer with this optional gear. Hemi engine is vastly under rated, advertised power is 425, actual power is closer to 500.

In the late 60's Nascar was really starting to get serious. This was back when a "stock car" was something they actually kept in stock at a dealership and many of these motors already had over 400 HP before the racers got their hands on them. Famous 60's-70's stock car driver Buddy Baker was once quoted saying "anyone can buy one of these and go 180 MPH right off the showroom floor" in reference to his winning 1969 Charger Daytona, the twin sister of the Plymouth Superbird.
Unfortunately many blame Buddy for "letting the cat out of the bag" to the insurance companies about the cars true potential that day. For those who don't know, "stock car" racing and "super stock" drag racing were pushing car sales immensely in the 60's and 70's and as a result cars were being made faster and faster and eventually insurance companies started cracking down hard on rates for all these lightweight 400 HP cars.
As a result many 60's-70's muscle cars had inaccurate horsepower and performance ratings and NEVER mentioned any top speed data. Even to this day I have to look up most classic muscle cars gear ratios and max RPM and put them in a gear ratio calculator to see what the top speed would be because the data isn't officially recorded anywhere.

That's a shame too because this issue caused the Charger Daytona and Plymouth Superbird to lose out on major notoriety which would instead be afforded to the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura SV. For years the 1972 Ferrari Daytona held the record of the worlds fastest production car at 175 MPH with the Miura SV close behind at 170 MPH despite the fact that a stock Charger Daytona is faster than either of them. The Charger Daytona piloted by Buddy Baker was the first car to reach an AVERAGE speed of 200 MPH on a closed circuit. Buddy also took this same race tuned 69 Charger Daytona up to 240 MPH on the same track.

Thanks to a surprisingly lightweight rigid unibody design and suspension geometry that was far ahead of its time these cars handle VERY good for their age and size. Their good handling characteristics are enforced by highly effective aerodynamic upgrades designed by ballistic missile engineer John Pointer which reduced the drag coefficient of this 50 year old sedan to just 0.28 which is lower than many modern super cars while at the same time providing over 1000 pounds of combined front and rear downforce! These cars are incredibly stable at high speeds and cut through the wind effortlessly.
As you can imagine they absolutely dominated Nascar . . .
but only for one Season. Unfortunately they performed so well that they were outlawed from Nascar! Chrysler followed all rules to build and sell the required amount of cars to the public for it to be considered a production car but Nascar outlawed the Charger Daytona and Plymouth Superbird even despite the fact that Ford was hard at work producing their own duo of highly aerodynamic competitors, the Mercury Cyclone Super Spoiler II and Ford Torino King Cobra.
Just imagine how much further Nascar would have progressed if they had all switched to 200 MPH ultra aero cars in the early 1970's!

Fun facts, the air scoops/vents on top of the fenders are there to relieve air pressure that builds up in the inner fender area at high speeds to reduce lift. The car is 18 and a half feet long, the nosecone is made of steel with fiberglass headlight covers and the rear wing is made of aluminum and is very strong, even strong enough for people to sit on it.
There were only seven colors available. Alpine White, Blue Fire Metallic, Corporation (Petty) Blue, Lemon Twist Yellow (Most Common), Limelight Green, Tor Red and Vitamin C Orange.
Just over 2000 Plymouth Superbirds and just over 500 Charger Daytona's were built to meet production car standards for Nascar rules.

Top Speed Rant:
Top speed is not voodoo or witch craft, it is science.
Factors that affect your top speed in a combustion engine automobile in order of importance are. Final drive ratio AKA differential gear, transmission ratios, engine max RPM, tire height (has a direct affect on your final drive gearing), body aerodynamics, horsepower and weight.
You don't need a massive amount of HP to go fast, just enough to overcome the amount of resistance you are facing at a given speed. The faster you go the more HP you will need to overcome the increasing resistance. Lowering the amount of resistance you're up against or raising your HP will only increase your top speed if you are limited by drag. If your top speed is already limited by gearing or RPM then adding power or lowering drag won't help. Interestingly what WILL help if you are at your gearing/RPM limit is a taller tire. As I said earlier tire size is directly linked to your final drive ratio so putting a taller tire on your car actually makes your gearing taller and can improve top speed while a shorter tire will make your gearing lower and improve your acceleration at the cost of top speed. I've played around with tire sizes on my real car and seen as much as 20 MPH top speed difference from a larger tire on the same size wheel.

Don't try to use any of this info to edit handling.meta because GTAV physics and real life physics are different. In GTAV adding engine power adds RPM as well which isn't always true in reality. Many other things don't line up with real life formulas either so putting a cars real life weight, co efficient drag or HP numbers into handling.meta will not always get you accurate performance.

I learned how to add downforce to vehicles from another modder that has since deleted his mod and I can no longer remember their name but some credit still goes to the author of the original downforce handling mod.

To install replace handling.meta located in the "data" section of
RossD's's 70Superbird dlc pack with the engine/transmision combo you would like to use.
(Only one engine/trans combo can be installed at a time)

To install sound and anti-wheelie fix replace vehicles.meta located in the data section of
RossD's's 70Superbird dlc pack.

You must install the provided carcols.meta file for custom suspension settings to work properly
otherwise the car will drag the ground at speed with custom suspension equipped.
